SUMMARY:Progressive Insights - Managing Risk in the Family Enterprise
DESCRIPTION:Business families are exposed a spectrum of risk both from within and outside of their enterprises. In a world of increasing volatility and uncertainty\, many boards have embraced Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) programs to manage and mitigate those risks\, though they tend to focus exclusively on operations and compliance and fail to integrate risks unique to family-controlled systems. This module will introduce a Family Enterprise Risk Management (FERM) framework to address these shortcomings and support your deliberations about systemic enterprise risk. He brings a background in corporate strategy\, economic analysis and investment banking to his work with family businesses\, family offices and family foundations. \nDevin’s work with family enterprises focuses on continuity planning\, governance design\, enterprise risk\, shareholder education and development\, and strategic sustainability initiatives. He is also leading a global research project out of Kellogg on the resilience of family firms in emerging and frontier markets. \n														\n\n	Margaret-Jean MannixFamily Council Co-Chair\n	\n	Margaret-Jean’s business experiences and travels have helped her to develop a keen understanding of international business practices in Canada\, Great Britain and China. \nShe has also held positions with increasing responsibility in her own family’s businesses since 1995. For many years\, she has been actively involved in studying the fields of Families in Business\, the Family Office\, and Family Philanthropy and she is a graduate of Loyola University’s Next Generation Leadership Institute.
