For the first time, we are hosting the Family Enterprise of the Year Award (FEYA) celebrations virtually! We invite you to join us as we honour and celebrate the family enterprise community. This year, tune in online to hear from, be inspired by and learn first-hand from resilient family businesses about their unique journeys and why Family Enterprise is more important than ever today, both within your community and beyond.
Established in 1986, the Family Enterprise of the Year Award (FEYA) is given annually by the Family Enterprise Xchange (FEX) to recognize, celebrate, and promote the achievements of Canadian family businesses and the considerable contribution they make to both their local communities and our national economy.

Dyck Family Smitty's Group
The original founder of this family legacy, Robert Dyck, began his career in the hospitality services business at the age of 15 and owned his first restaurant at the age of 23. Today the Dyck family owns three Smitty’s family restaurants that include the Steinbach, Meadowood, & Pembina South locations. These three restaurants are run as a family business and are now managed by the second generation. Guests and the nearby communities love the family connection! Their vision statement is very clear "Happy Team, Happy Guests, Every Day".
Schinkel Properties Inc.
Schinkel Properties Inc. was started in 1980 by Bob Schinkel. The company started out as a residential rental company and became a commercial leasing business after growing for several years. Today the company manages over 1,200 condo units, 150 apartment units and 115,000 square feet of commercial real estate. Their sister company, The InnKeepers, manages 5 mid-scale hotels in Winnipeg and surrounding area. This second-generation family-run business is based in Steinbach, Manitoba with offices also in Winnipeg. The hotels are operated by son, Justin and construction operated by son, Evan. They are making an impact on the Manitoba economy and tourism sector with the achievement of their many successful hotels. Schinkel Properties Inc. takes pride in their mission statement "Your success through genuine care".

Mr. Sparrow is a graduate of the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University and the Wharton Business School. Mr. Sparrow is a past president of the Entrepreneurs Organization and has served on the boards of the Manitoba Chapter of the Family Enterprise Exchange, the Winnipeg Executives Association and Candace House. Ben has enjoyed judging the national Family Enterprise of the Year Award for the past three years. Currently Mr. Sparrow serves on the board of YPO Manitoba (Young Presidents Organization).
