The

Enterprising Family of the
Year Award

Since 1986, the National FEYA has celebrated the achievements of Canadian family businesses and their significant contributions to both their local communities and the national economy.

This year, we’re thrilled to introduce four new categories of awards and to continue the original tradition of the FEYA within the Enterprising Family of the Year Award. This award is the highest honour that Family Enterprise Canada bestows each year and is the capstone event of the FEYAs.

If you are connected to or know an enterprising family that deserves to be recognized, please take a few moments nominate them — you could even win a prize for your nomination!

Enterprising Family Award Criteria

1. Family Business 101

Is the family enterprise's vision, mission and values clearly communicated and aligned? A key factor in the success of a family business is having a shared vision and understanding of the direction that the family and the business is headed towards into the future.

2. Culture and Community

Employees of a family business are often treated like extended family and develop a bond with the family and the business. Does the family host a positive working environment that empowers, recognizes and rewards both family and non-family employees?

3. Governance and Transition

Having family business governance structures and processes in place (i.e. routine family meetings, a solid succession plan, etc.) is important to ensuring the long-term success and continuity of the family business. Does the family have good governance structures?

4. Growth

A successful family enterprise, like most well-established businesses, has a history of achievement and innovation. What can you tell us about the successful growth and development of the family enterprise?

5. The "X" Factor

What is the family's "secret recipe" for their success as both a business and a family? What sets them apart from other family businesses? What is their greatest accomplishment?
